In this article, we take a look at the Lemonade Detox Diet also know as the Lemonade Cleanse Diet. This exercise is just one step in the process known as The Master Cleanse and is by far the most popular phase and the most satisfying.
What is the Lemonade Diet?
Simply put, the lemonade cleanse diet is a way to flush the body of it's toxins and detox through the drinking of the freshly made lemon drink.
It's a simple process and is very easy to follow and your body will actually start to crave the fresh tasting juice after a few days on the detox.
This diet is especially effective at breaking down all those nasty toxins that reside in the body as well as helping to lose weight.
What Is Is Good For?
- Weight loss
History of The Lemonade Diet
The most popular celebrity to be associated to the lemonade cleanse diet was Beyonce Knowles, and ever since then it has taken off in popularity. However it has been around since long before Beyonce got her hands on it, in fact, we have evidence of the diet being used for over 60 years.
The diet first became mainstream when a Dr Stanley Burroughs, author of “The Master Cleanse” when he wrote about how the process could be used as a way to combat stomach ulcers. lemonade diet
Whether it was a chance happening or not, of all the patients who came to Stanley with ulcers, they all seemed to recover from them within a10 day period on the lemonade diet. Most notably there was also a side effect.
They all lost weight.
The research and claims by Stanley Burroughs were brought back up to date in 2009, when Tom Woloshyn released the book titled “The Master Cleanse Experience”. In which he shares his experiences of teaching thousands of students in the correct way to follow the lemonade diet.
Tom is a health practitioner who had studied under the Master Cleanse founder and creator Stanley Burroughs, and has been consulting others on the diet for over 20 years.
It quickly became most known as the lemon diet and also goes by a few other variations such as, the lemonade cleanse or detox and the lemon master cleanse. All forms of the diet typically follow the same premise.
Does the lemonade diet work?
So let's look at some facts here. This is actually a starvation diet and some experts predict that you will gain back the weight you have lost once you start eating again. However, that's not to say that will happen to everyone as each of our bodies are different.
What is believed is that the lemon detox diet is a great way to cleanse the body of impurities and kickstart a healthier body and way of life. It is designed to bring about change on a larger scale, starting with a simple detox.
From there the idea is to continue on this healthy streak. The diet is not the magic solution you are looking for, but it is a safe way to cleanse the body and kick-start weight loss.
What results have been seen?
Beyonce claims to have lost over 10lbs on the diet, and many other celebrities such as Mariah Carey claim it has worked well for them also.
But what is it like for “real” people, those of us who aren't a celebrity and don't have a chef and nutritionist to train us every step of the way?
Let's take a look at some lemonade diet reviews from people who have tried and tested this diet:
This lemonade-like blend of water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper is actually a rather popular and simple detoxification method. I've been using it for 12 days and the results are great.
I highly recommend doing this cleanse. I used to feel so tired all the time, sluggish and heavy and worn out every day, but once I got to Day 3 of my Lemonade Diet, I no longer desperately wanted to crash in the afternoons and I have so much more clarity and energy and can easily work and focus and enjoy life the entire day from early morning to late at night!!!
This diet realy works and is surprisingly “painless” for a big eater like me, I was amazed at the results, although I have almost 40 lbs to lose, it gave me good head start. You MUST follow the directions religously though, it's the only way it will work 🙂
So some good reviews overall there I am sure you will agree. There is no denying that this diet will only work if you stick to it and allow the lemon drink and it's ingredients to do what they are designed to do.
Sticking with it is super important if you want to see results and look and feel great.
Lemonade Diet Ingredients
The lemonade diet includes just a handful of ingredients and it is really simple to make. Some people are tempted to make up a gallon of this stuff and keep it in the fridge to save time, however the diet is designed to be used with the freshest lemon juice you can find, so that means making a fresh batch or 2 throughout the day.
In it's simplest form the drink was made with a combination of ingredients:
- Lemon juice
- Cayenne pepper
- Maple syrup
In recent years, the Maple Syrup has been replaced by Madal Bal syrup, which uses the sap from several different species of palm plants. With that said, there is no reason you couldn't just use maple syrup.
So let's take a look at some quantities that help make up one glass of lemon juice:
- 2 tbsp of Fresh Lemon Juice
- 2 tbsp of Rich Maple Syrup
- 1/10 of a tsp of Cayenne Pepper
- 1 to 2 cups of Water
That's really all there is to it.
There is also the option to purchase the Master Cleanse pre-made supplement drink which you can find here.
There are many people who have asked me about a pill form of supplement for the Lemonade Diet. The closest you can get is the powdered sachets you can see on the right.
These allow you a hassle free and no-mess way to detox and cleanse your body. One pack contains 18 servings, and will keep you feeling full for hours after drinking. Which is perfect for a detox and keeping those hunger pangs away.
Lemonade Diet Instructions
There are many different variations of the cleanse that have formed over the years. They mostly differ in the number of days you are supposed to stick to the diet for.
The most used and well know if the 10-day-cleanse, followed closely by the 7 day and the 3-day-cleanse. The 10 day is the most popular as it gives the body more time to adjust and also sees the most dramatic weight loss.
This diet is actually just one step of the complete master cleanse diet, all steps are below:
- The Ease-In
- The Lemonade Diet
- The Salt Water Flush
- The Ease-Out
- The Post Cleanse Lifestyle.
If you make sure you follow these directions, you won't go far wrong.
- You should prepare the lemon juice drink shortly before consumption to ensure that your are getting the freshest juice possible.
- Make your detox drink using the ingredients above, making sure to follow the measurements correctly.
- Drink the cocktail immediately, not allowing it to sit as the syrup will sink to the bottom.
Pros and Cons
As with any diet, there may be side effects. Each of out bodies react differently to certain stresses placed upon it and a diet is no different. Essentially you are stressing your body by placing it into an unknown state in order to achieve a goal.
You actually won't know how you will react until you try it.
Some of those side effects reported by others are actually very positive and include:
- Weight loss
- Better sleep
- Better mental clarity
- Lower cravings and addictions
- More energy
- Clearer skin
There is very little heard about any negative side effects of this diet. As I mentioned above, it is a starvation diet, so your body won't be getting the protein it needs. However that is all part of a cleanse, how often do you think our Paleolithic ancestors went without a meal for a few days? Hunting and gather was hard, especially when you were an animals prey!
So today we have it easy, we can listen to our bodies and eat when we need to eat, drink when we need to drink. So with that being said, in terms of there being any real dangers to doing the lemonade diet, well there aren't many as long as you listen to your body.
