Mr. Snapchat has recently been seen looking leaner and bouncing off the walls with energy during his performances! Born Khaled Mohammed Khaled, DJ Khaled is a perfect example of a celebrity who built his fortunes single-handedly from the ground up.

The rapper/producer who has one of the largest social media following was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised as a staunch Muslim by his parents who were immigrants into the U.S from Palestine.

DJ Khaled who juggles numerous responsibilities in his life including author, radio/media personality, DJ, record producer (We the Best Music Group), record label exec, has recently become a father – a development that he admits inspired him to be a better man.

He did gain a lot of weight in the period leading towards the birth of his son Asahd as he and his fiancée ate a lot.  He also admits to having being inspired by his close friend and business partner Fat Joe who lost about 80lbs.

Speaking to Fat Joe, DJ Khaled realized that shedding the excess weight would not only do well for his own health but also benefit his family as he would be able to support them better while he is in shape.

Sometime back during a telephone interview with TT Torrez, DJ Khaled admitted that he constantly thinks about his weight. “It was during a holiday and I said to myself, I’m not going to lie, I’m a fat ass.” DJ Khaled confessed.

“And I realized, you know what, I’m going to challenge myself. I don’t want to be skinny and I don’t want to be fat. I want to be the Don that I am and healthy.” He said that he is not just doing this for himself but also to show the non-believers.

At the time, he mentioned that initially he weighed a whopping 300lbs but after working tirelessly towards his goal, he lost about 66lbs to register his current weight of 234lbs.

He mentions that better health and a more appealing physique is a ‘Major Key’ to his success in both his private life and professional career.

“The discipline of me doing the gym and dieting has made me make better music and make better decisions.” DJ Khaled went ahead to encourage people out there to challenge themselves and dedicate themselves to living healthy.

He further affirmed that even without lots of money at your disposal, living a healthy life would give you lots of happiness.

Diet Routine

DJ Khaled confessed that he is was not a healthy eater especially when he became really successful. Food acted as a source of comfort and eating, of course, became part of almost every social gathering.

He would later develop an insatiable appetite. His diet consisted of hamburgers to sandwiches, sausages, bacon and good old steak.

Eating out became a norm as he would consume lots of calories every day in the form of fried foods and processed sugars so automatically these would be the first items to be scrapped off his diet.

He had to switch to a vegan diet to see any real difference in his weight. At the moment his diet consists mainly of fruits and veggies.

In the morning he starts his day with some oats, almond milk mixed with a fruit of choice. He totally avoids dairy. He says that he loves that he switched to fruits instead of meats and energy drinks as they give him sustainable energy without affecting his health negatively.

In addition to this, he takes severally small meals during the day to prevent him from binge eating, incorporating salads as much as possible.

He includes a small amount of bread in his diet although he says that he does try his best to stay away from carbs in general. He drinks a lot of fruit pulps and smoothies instead of artificial fruit juices.

Exercise Routine

It is a known fact that DJ Khaled is a big fan of jet skis. He spends lots of time both on the water and in it as he does a good amount of swimming every week. He also exercises at least three times a week.

His workout regimen involves a combination of body weight and core exercises along with at least two gym sessions within the week. In a recent video with Emily Oberg on her show ‘Get Sweaty’ DJ Khaled comes off as a man on a mission.

His ability to stay focused and inspired in virtually every situation sees him push himself to the limit in order to complete the whole workout routine. He talks to himself through his sessions to make sure he stays in the ‘zone’.

At first, DJ Khaled stretches out his big muscles which include his hamstrings, quadriceps, glutes, lower back, and shoulders. He then proceeds to the below exercises:

  • Arm rotations – Two sets of 30 seconds each.
  • Torso rotations – Two sets of 30 seconds each.
  • Chest expansions – Two sets of 30 seconds each.

  • Elliptical Interval Training – 30-minute intervals.
