Improper Warm up and Cool down

Workout RoutineWarm up is very important before any exercise. Whenever you get the chance to get on the treadmill, make sure you warm up your muscles. Start on the treadmill with slow walking pace for few minutes. It will help your body to get ready for a long run. Once your body warms up and you feel ready, then increase the speed and incline. Increase speed and incline in small increments by the passage of time and once you get tired, decrease the speed to slow the things down and take off from the treadmill to cool down your body. Again start slowly, increase the speed, decrease the speed and cool down. That is the proper way to warm up and cool down.

Now let me explain the cool down process. It is just as important as warming up. You may get tired and turn off your treadmill as soon as your exercising times up or you achieve your goal of the day, but, that very moment when you get tired and it start hurting, it actually start working.

I don't count my sit-ups. I only start counting when it starts hurting. When I feel pain, that's when I start counting, because that's when it really counts!

So, when you start to exhaust with your exercise, try to allow yourself a couple more minutes. It worths it and also helps you to slow things down.

Wearing the wrong shoes while Working out on a Treadmill

Running Shoes

This is one of the most common mistakes people do while working out on a treadmill. You probably know that wearing the right pair of shoe outdoors is important, but do you know that it is important to wear the right shoe on the treadmill as well? They will keep you running and provides you comfort. They also help you to prevent injuries and reduce the impact on your joints while running on the treadmill.

Ignoring the Proper Position

Keeping the proper position while you are working out on a treadmill is also very necessary, so you really shouldn't have to look down at your feet. If your body isn't aligned properly then you will end up stretching certain muscle groups while stretching others, and this can lead to injuries. Poor position can also throw off your balance, and it can even decrease the amount of oxygen that your body can consume.

To keep the best position while working out, keep your chin parallel to the ground and keep your spine straight. Your head and hips in one line as well. This will engage all of the right muscles and decrease the chances of hurting yourself.

Sticking with one Routine

Treadmill Warm upYou may feel comfortable doing the same workout every day, but over time, you will burn fewer calories as your body used to it and your muscles become more efficient. Every 4 weeks change at least one phase of your workout. Try the elliptical or the stair climber, or take your walk outside. “Routine changes also help prevent muscle and joint strains from the repetitive stress of pulling and pushing the muscles at the same angles over and over again,” says Olson.
