What's in them?

Not all supplements are FDA-tested or approved, so they may have undocumented side-effects. Some more common choices which are known to be safe include Green Tea and Chromium. Ephedra, which is now banned because it has been deemed unsafe. Hoodia is still under investigation.

  • African Mango – another popular fruit which has been proven to aid weight loss and is 100% natural and safe to consume.
  • Hoodia – an herbal supplement but there are no scientific results proving it is helpful.
  • White Kidney Bean – Full of protein, vitamins and minerals helping to promote and speed up digestion.
  • Cayenne Pepper – a popular spice used in everyday cooking, designed “shock” your digestive system, stopping the feeling of hunger. No clinical information is available so there's no evidence to support this claim.
  • Green Tea/Green Coffee Extract – both these extracts contain caffeine and natural antioxidants thought to suppress appetite which has been supported by some clinical trials.
  • Garcinia Cambogia – known to help boost serotonin and curb emotional eating it's also known to cause mild side effects like headaches.
  • Raspberry Ketones – With only limited clinical information there's not a lot to go on other than “it's hormonal” as to why these supposedly work.

Who Should Take Them?

If you're having trouble losing weight on your own, appetite suppressants may be the little extra push you need to curb snacking between meals and stop you from feeling hungry. These are not for basic cosmetic weight loss but for people who are seriously obese or morbidly obese to learn to curb their calorie intake. They are suggested for anyone who has a BMI above 27.

What We Like

The 100% pure appetite suppressant contains 60% of HCA. This is the compound in Garcinia that is said to promote appetite suppression. It supposedly works by suppressing cravings in the digestive system rather than blocking nerve messages like clinical appetite suppressants.

While there's a whole lot of positive reviews for this product by the ‘Rockstar' brand, The sheer amount of positive reviews from this product suggests that there has to be something worth looking at with this brand.

What We Don't Like

While it says 100% pure and natural, there aren't any non-GMO or organic certifications.

Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite

What We Like

Hydroxycut has a very good name and is known for producing quality products. The main ingredient is Coleus Forskohlii, a stimulant. This works similarly to prescription appetite suppressants as it changes the messages in your nervous system so your brain doesn't react to the hunger.

The product also contains caffeine and other compounds to increase body temperature, energy, and more. There are scientific studies on this product which support the huge number of positive reviews. Unlike the Garcinia this product only admits to “limited” weight loss which seems much more reliable.

What We Don't Like

This is caffeine based, which means you will be zipping about all day and it can also cause an unsafe jump in heart rate. This product will also make you sweat because of the use of thermogenic to increase body temperature.  Very few reviews actually comment on whether it was successful as an appetite suppressant or just as a weight loss aid.

What We Like

These are very easy to take and they can be crushed and mixed with food. The side effects of these appetite suppressants are on a very small scale, meaning that it raises your triglyceride levels but very little else. A lot of reviews mention suppressed appetite so it certainly seems to work for stopping snacking and cravings between meals. It has thousands of reviews on Amazon as well as other sites so it seems like it's a very popular choice of supplement.

What We Don't Like

Raspberry ketones are the main ingredient in this appetite suppressant, something that doesn't have a lot of clinical support. The manufacturer has also been caught “padding” reviews with paid reviewers so it's hard to tell if all the positive press is, in fact, true. It's also caffeine-based which means you may have a racing heartbeat and other effects from high caffeine levels. There's not a lot to go on with this product other than potentially biased reviews.

Pure Forskolin

What We Like

With the same active ingredient as Hydroxycut, it seems the Forskolin must really have something to be twice in the top 5. Unlike the Hydroxycut, this is a vegetarian-friendly supplement and it's also good for boosting the immune system. Unlike the other products, this is only one pill, every other supplement here is two or even three. There is also no caffeine and reviewers seem to be genuine in their admiration for this product.

What We Don't Like

This product has a mild laxative side effect, which can be more pronounced in some. This is a huge negative if you're not always close to a bathroom. It also seems that the product isn't always effective after the initial burst of weight loss. It seems like while the first bottle promotes a more rapid weight loss after that the effects drop off.

What We Like

This is a well-known and well-trusted supplement company. Their products are good quality and reputable. The 10:1 strength seems to be higher than any other available even if the product isn't as well known. This is actually more of a fat burner and carb blocker than an actual appetite suppressant as that seems to be more of a “side effect”. It's also only one capsule and there's no caffeine. Results seem mixed though, many seem to have no results whatsoever.

What We Don't Like

The company does do paid reviews so it's debatable how true some of them are.  It's difficult to determine whether there are any actual results since no one seems to have clinical trials for this appetite suppressant even if it receives tons of rave reviews.

Go with Skinny Gal or the Garcinia ZT  The companies seem reputable, and, with both having similar active ingredients, these two appetite suppressants are probably your best bet.
